The first time I traveled abroad was to the U.S.S.R. in 1988 as a high school student. That trip to Russia and the Ukraine opened my eyes and mind. I was immediately hooked. I have spent time in Chile, México, Canada, Taiwan, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Perú, Taiwan, Ireland and Northern Ireland, the U.K. (England, Scotland, Wales), Argentina, Oman, and Nicaragua. I have directed and served on dissertations and theses with an international focus.
Study Abroad
I lead a study abroad trip every other year (even years) during the spring semester. For the first half of the semester we meet in the classroom to learn about aspects of international and comparative higher education and then travel abroad to learn about it first-hand. Past study abroad trips have been to Taiwan (2009), the Dominican Republic (2010), Cuba (2012), and Ireland (2014 and 2016).
Other Study Abroad Opportunities
Other study abroad opportunities related to the study of higher education are available every year through other programs. I send these out to the student email lists and information is also available through USC’s Office of Study Abroad.
International Internships
Each year several of our students do their summer internships abroad. Information about these opportunities is also available in the Study Abroad office. I can also meet with students about finding such opportunities.
